Our School

The Westside Montessori is an independent school designed to meet the unique intellectual needs of children ages 2 to 6.

Westside Montessori’s hours of operation are
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

PROGRAM
Our program uses a developmental curriculum based on the Montessori Method, which is experiential and promotes growth through self-exploration. It assists children with proper use of the age-appropriate materials and activities, while encouraging them to respect their peers, the material, the environment, and the whole planet, which in turn teaches them to appreciate and respect resources and act responsibly. We provide a safe and nurturing environment, which takes into consideration the entire potential of the child, encouraging children to explore, to develop, to take risks, and to grow academically, emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and morally.

The curriculum is designed to provide appropriate academic challenges and opportunities for the children, while also nurturing age-appropriate social and emotional growth; the environment is designed to provide a wide array of choices that foster autonomy, build self-esteem, encourage responsibility, and promote independence.

PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Maria Montessori was the first woman in Italy ever to be admitted into medical school. She observed the need for intellectual stimulation, and began to design her unique didactic material; now known as the Montessori Material. The Montessori Method is a kinesthetic hands on approach to education, that takes into consideration the entire potential of the child; mentally, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. It is an individualized system of education that employs the use of the Montessori teaching materials to make the abstract concepts understandable with concrete material. Placing the child in an intellectually stimulating environment provides the greatest possibility for mental development. We at the Westside Montessori believe that a child should be free to explore his/her environment; thus, we provide an environment that allows for free exploration through the use of our unique center.

STAFF
After attaining her Bachelors Degree, Executive Administrator of the Westside Montessori, Ms. Dilshad Bana, completed her A.M.I. training and attained her Montessori diploma. She has worked directly under the guidance of Dr. D. Ruth, who attained her Montessori training under the guidance of Dr. Montessori and her associates themselves. Ms. Bana has been pro-actively associated with the Montessori institute, continued to expand her interest in current early childhood developments and has been considered an authority in the Montessori Methodology.
